Dental Sealants A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of your teeth.  Teeth with deep grooves (often referred to as pits and fissures) are hard to clean and susceptible to decay.  A sealant protects the tooth by sealing these grooves and creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. Sealants can be applied to children’s teeth or to adult’s teeth and are a great way to prevent cavities and decay in the deep grooves of teeth.
