Crown & Bridge Work

Dental CrownA crown, sometimes called a cap, is a covering that encases the entire tooth. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be otherwise restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

A crown procedure will include taking several highly accurate impressions of your teeth that will be used to create your custom crown.  A mold will also be used to create a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth until your new crown is fabricated by our dental laboratory here in Atlantic County. While the tooth is numb, we will remove any decay and shape the surface to properly fit the crown.  Once these details are accomplished, your temporary crown will be placed with temporary cement and your bite will be checked to ensure you are biting properly. At your next appointment your temporary crown will be removed, the remaining tooth structure will be cleaned, and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the spacing and the bite are accurate.

Dental BridgeA dental bridge is a non-removable appliance that replaces missing teeth. There are several types of bridges. A traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the teeth on either side of the missing tooth and placing a false tooth/teeth between the crowns. The false tooth/teeth are attached to the crowns and fill the empty space.

There are other types of bridges as well. A cantilever bridge is held in the mouth by one or more crowns on only one side of the space where a tooth is missing. A Maryland bonded bridge consists of a metal framework with “wings” on each side. The wings are bonded to the back of your existing teeth. The false teeth are also bonded to the framework. This type of bridge is also called a resin-bonded bridge or an acid-etched bridge.

You and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case.
